June 12 1987, 3:45 p.m.

I went back to the hospital today, and talked to Dominick again. He had heard some interesting things about Dr. Hansen from what he had heard the doctors talking about. I learned from Dominick that Dr. Hansen was the first one to discover leprosy's bacteria, and that it is an infectious disease. Because of that, another name for leprosy is Hansen's Disease. Dominick also told me that later in his life, Dr. Hansen was doing some more research on leprosy. He told a woman that he was researching a vaccination to prevent leprosy, and asked her to help experiment it. Thinking that she was being treated to prevent leprosy, the woman helped him. When Hansen injected bacteria into the woman's eye, however, it was not to prevent leprosy but to see if infection could be grown in humans. Aside from a little bit of blurry vision in the woman, nothing happened. When the woman found out that she had been injected with an infectious disease, she pressed charges on Dr. Hansen and he was forced to leave his job at the hospital.
